DIY Spirulina Protein Bars

There is a way to have the perfect pre or post workout snack or meal designed to your tastes and nutritional needs: Make them yourself! I was looking around for a good bar for not quite a full meal and more than a snack, that tasted good and had spirulina and other superfoods for a power packed bar for whenever the time came for a healthy something with enough substance to satisfy my body and mind (and of course the soul 🙂 ) After an investment in some “superfoods“, I got a large bowl, thought about what I wanted in a good healthy snack bar, and went to work. Remember, you can feel free to adjust the amounts and ingredients to match your tastes and nutrient needs, play with the recipe, and invent your own!  As made by directions below, each bar comes out to about 350 calories, 20 gr protein, 40 carbs each…

Ingredients:

  • Plant Protein powder 6 scoops
  • oats 1 cup
  • hempseeds 9 tbsp
  • carob 3 tbsp
  • diced almonds 1/2 cup
  • coconut flour 4 tbsp
  • oat flour 1cp
  • date sugar 3 tsp
  • cinnamon 2 tbsp
  • 8 chopped dates
  • 8 tsp spirulina
  • coconut oil 1 cup
  • bananas (2)

Preparation:

  • First, in a large bowl mix the bananas and coconut oil until smooth
  • Combine the rest of the dry ingredients in a separate bowl, mix until uniform in color.
  • Slowly add dry ingredient mixture into banana/oil mixture in the large bowl, adding a bit at a time and stir as you add.
  • Pour finished mixture into dish you would use to make brownies, and flatten with fingers or spatula until surface is smooth and uniform.
  • Put in fridge for a couple hours, or just leave alone with cover on the counter
  • cut into 8 squares, or more if you want smaller bars.

That’s it!!
